The Catholic Church was a persecuting power during the Dark Ages from 538 to 1798. During the early centuries of the Christian Church there was sever persecution of the Followers of Christ. All the fury Satan exercised against Christ, Satan now directed against Christ's Followers.
It is estimated by the Catholic Church that she put to death apprx. fifty million "heretics" during the Dark Ages. Protestant historians set the number of Saints murdered at one hundred million.

The Pope of Rome has a title, and it is “ Vicarius Filii Dei” meaning Vicegerent of the Son of God, Vicar of God, or Vicar of the Son of God.
